It has been said that perception is projection. What does this really mean? My interpretation is that what we see ‘out there’ is what we expect to see, or project. So, what does this mean in terms of our life?

It simply, (and amazingly, powerfully, joyfully), means that we can create whatever we want to in our life. We get to choose what we will experience! How cool is that? If we don’t like what we’re seeing, feeling, hearing, experiencing, we can change it! We get to choose our story.

So, as a starting point, what story(ies) are you seeing in your life? What do you feel on a regular basis? What do you hear people saying around and to you? What circumstances are you experiencing?

It is useful to take an account of where we are now (what we no longer want), so that we can create a clearer idea of where we want to go (what we want in our life).

The next step would be to clear out our old, limiting beliefs, decisions, negative emotions, habits, etc that no longer serve us. How do we do this? Well, there are so many ways. My way is through Network Care and NLP, Time Line Therapy, Hypnosis and Coaching. These are the main tools in my toolbox. I like to sprinkle in some humour and fun (I gotta be me after all) where appropriate, as well as some empathy and intuition.

As an example of one of the tools I like to use is asking questions: “What specifically do you want to create? Do you have a plan to create it? If you didn’t achieve that goal, what could you do differently to achieve it? Do you even still want it?” I also like to ask different questions; instead of asking ‘why is this happening to me?’ you could try ‘why is this happening for me?’

I truly believe (my story/hallucination) that the quality of the questions we ask ourselves, and the quality of the thoughts and emotions we attach to them, creates the ‘landscape’ or story in which we live.

What would your day be like if you started out your morning with the statement “I will greet this day with love in my heart,” instead of “[time to get out of bed]?”

How do you create your day?

Hi everyone, I’m back from vacation, and ready to rock again!

It has been a pretty refreshing week. I was able to not only get out and do some mountain-biking, but I was also able to spend some time with a friend visiting from New York City.

The week off gave me a chance to reflect on how I do me; how and why I apparently do what I do. An opportunity to change things up a little bit; to take all the old routines and maybe do them in a different order, change them, or leave them completely (I was kinda inspired by this blog posting that I read).

One of the questions that came up for me during this process, was ‘What is the difference between being the best in the world versus the best FOR the world?’ Follow-ups to this were ‘How are these two different paths with different destinies? and How does each of these paths support asking different questions and different experiences?’

Lastly, ‘what must change now? What change that I dare not make, will I make now?

I don’t yet have an answer, perhaps you do…? What direction might these questions lead your life?

I am on vacation this week and am enjoying this time of rejuvenation; re-acquainting myself with activities that I had put aside for awhile. I am especially looking forward to spending a fair amount of time on my mountain bike this week. It is an activity that I love, but that not many of my friends really do.

This got me to thinking about other areas of my life where I do things that not many of my friends do, (Network Care being a major one). I have heard it said that we are the sum of the 7-10 people closest to us, and that if we wanted to change who we are being, we need to change those who are close to us.

This line of thinking led me back to a question I was asked back in December ’09; who is in your circle of We? How big is my circle of We? Who really is in my peer group? And, what does ‘doing my own thing’ really mean?

These questions, and a few others, continue to rattle around in my mind since then, leading me to new experiences, friends, opportunities, perceptions, behaviours, and structures in my life. Simply from contemplating these different questions, my life has taken different turns than it might otherwise have done. It has been said that the mind that will answer the question is not the same mind that asked the question in the first place. Therefore, if you want to create something new in your life, ask a different question, one that you don’t already know the answer(s) to…
